Keep in Shape at These West Chester Gyms

September 15, 2016

The gym — some people love it, some people hate it, but all of us can benefit from it. West Chester has no shortage of gyms options. Want to check one out? Here’s the low-down on the West Chester gyms that should be on your list.

Mitch’s Market Street Gym (322 W. Market St., West Chester, PA)

There’s not much you could want in a gym that you won’t find at Mitch’s. The gym offers all types of classes: boot camps, yoga, pilates, zumba, cardio and more. Personal trainers are available, the free weight selection is extensive and the machines are plentiful.

Mitch’s offers newcomers a free fitness consultation or class, so check it out.

Gage Strength Training (325 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA)

Gage Strength Training calls itself “West Chester’s #1 Fat-Loss Gym.” With class titles like “Fat Blast” and “Body Blitz,” you can see what they’re going for here. You won’t find yoga classes, but you will find experienced trainers who believe that fitness regimens should be crafted uniquely to each person.

A consultation and training session are free for those considering joining.

iCore Fitness (300 Lawrence Drive, West Chester, PA)

Perhaps the most unique local gym option is iCore, which focuses on intense, activity-based cardio. By activities, we mean obstacle courses, complete with walls to climb, ropes to swing on and inclined and declined monkey bars to traverse. iCore’s approach is heavily influenced by the popular Spartan races.

iCore offers many classes for everyone from kids to those who have done Spartan races before. For $22, you can get a day pass to come by and see what it’s all about. If you want to drop in for a strength and conditioning class, it’ll cost $15.

ACAC Fitness & Wellness Center (1130 McDermott Drive, West Chester, PA)

ACAC has a feature you won’t find in every gym: a pool. Several pools, actually, both indoor and outdoor. The outdoor pools even have slides!

Where ACAC really stands out, though, is with P.R.E.P. This program pairs your doctor with a fitness expert at the gym to create the ideal workout regimen for you. Whether it’s because of a specific health problem you need to address or just a desire to get in shape, the program can help. It’s $60 for a 60-day trial.

CrossFit West Chester (917 Old Fern Hill Road #500, West Chester, PA)

If you’ve done crossfit before, you know exactly what you’re in for when you go to CrossFit West Chester. Crossfit is its own unique type of workout, an intense conditioning experience that is different each time. It’s known for the sense of camaraderie that develops between participants.

If you’re new to crossfit and  want to learn what it’s all about, go here.

Building up the motivation to go to the gym on a regular basis isn’t easy for most of us, but it’s a little easier to make it work with so many good options available locally. We encourage you to check them out.
