Have Summer Fun in West Chester

June 22, 2016

There’s a lot of responsibility that comes with planning a great summer, mainly the responsibility of filling your schedule with all of the fun summer activities your community in West Chester has to offer. Here are a few things you can do for a fun summer in or around West Chester. Preview

Feast on Tasty Frozen Treats

What is summer without the promise of ice cream? There’s a reason people keep screaming for it: it’s delicious and a summertime staple that can’t be missed. If you agree with us, then we have great news for you. West Chester is home to some of the best frozen treats you’ll ever have the pleasure of tasting.

Try La Michoacana Homemade Ice Cream at 231 E. State St., Kennett Square. Their homemade ice cream is creamy, rich deliciousness that will leave you wanting more day after day. Taste classic flavors, or let your palate take an adventure by trying avocado, maize, and other unexpected flavors.

If gelato is your choice for frozen treats, then head over to D’Ascenzo’s Gelato on 32 E. Gay St., West Chester. We know you will love the D’Ascenzo’s family homemade gelato and sorbets. They use fresh fruit and they make their own crispy waffle cones. You won’t want to miss out on these delicious desserts!

There are many other wonderful places to treat yourself to cold deliciousness. For more places to try, read Spoon University’s take on the best frozen desserts in West Chester or our past post on the best ice cream places in Glen Mills.

Hop on the West Chester Railroad

Trains are fun. That pretty much sums up the reason why we love taking a ride on the West Chester Railroad. We suggest you use this summer to take a break from modern life. Go on a trip to a simpler time, one where you can sit back and relax while you enjoy the beauty of the journey instead of focusing on the destination. You’ll travel from Market Street, Chester County, and the village of Glen Mills. Along the way, you will visit historic train stations, a 19th-century village, and a restored Victorian station. This leisurely train ride is a perfect way to do something new by doing something old.

Celebrate the 4th of July!

There are plenty of opportunities to celebrate the 4th of July to the fullest. You can head over to Nottingham County theFreedom Fest concert and fireworks show. There will be fun family activities, live music, food, and, of course, a fireworks display.

For a more active 4th of July, you can participate in Downington’s Good Neighbor Day, an all-day event with on-foot and canoe races, craft exhibitions, fabulous food vendors, and a whole lot of other activities. The day’s activities benefit the ambulance and rescue squads within the Downingtown Area School District. The celebration ends with a fireworks extravaganza.

Turks Head Music Festival at Everhart Park

On Sunday, July 17th spend the day at Everhart Park listening to popular regional bands. Two stages will be set up for your listening and viewing pleasure. There will also be food vendors and artisan booths. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, and enjoy this musical event presented to you by the West Chester Parks & Recreation Department.

Chester County 88th Annual Old Fiddlers’ Picnic

If you love music, food, crafts, and live entertainment, then plan to take a twenty-minute drive to Hibernia County Park on Saturday, August 13th for the 88th Annual Old Fiddlers’ Picnic. Enjoy the woodlands of Fiddler’s Field, take a tour of the Hibernia Mansion, and take in the summer. Every year this event brings in thousands of visitors. Don’t miss out on the fun!

There’s plenty to do this summer in West Chester. These are just some of your options.
