Giving Back This Holiday Season

November 14, 2019

As Thanksgiving marks the unofficial start of the holiday season, many of us will likely be rushing from store to store to pick out the perfect presents for our loved ones. But the holiday can also be a way to give thanks for what we have by giving back to those we may never have met. Right near your Chestnut Square apartment are loads of opportunities to donate your time, skills or even just money to help brighten the holidays for fellow West Chester residents in need.

One organization worthy of your attention is Safe Harbor of Chester County. Located less than one block from your Chestnut Square apartment, the organization provides a wide range of services for locals battling homelessness and poverty. The agency operates a robust meal program, providing hot meals to those in need at its headquarters, as well as delivering meals to those living on the streets in West Chester. Safe Harbor also runs a shelter for those struggling with housing, as well as equips clients with training and educational opportunities to help them get back on their feet.

Volunteers are a key part of these efforts. You don’t need any experience to pitch in—all you have to bring is a passion for helping people! Opportunities include organizing and sorting food, cooking meals, serving or delivering food, running programs at the shelter, sprucing up the facilities and much more. Volunteers also can host fundraisers and other events to generate both money and awareness for the organization. Whatever you can bring to the table, Safe Harbor will welcome it!

If you’re looking for a way to show your thanks for all that you have this Thanksgiving, consider paying it forward by giving your time to an organization that is always extending a helping hand to those most in need.
