Top Dog Trails: The Best Trails in Chester County for Daily Dog Walks

March 15, 2022

So your pup has made clear to you that they would appreciate an expanded walking adventure sometime today between breakfast and lunch.

Perhaps they’ve somehow gotten their paws on brochures for Valley Forge National Historical Park or even Pawlings Farm, placing them somewhere you might see them, like in the fridge or on your work computer’s laptop, or even, beneath your pillow. Adorable, but clever.

How did your pup manage to do all this, you may ask? Let’s focus on what’s important here, Okay? And that’s finding the best trails near Chestnut Square for dog walks.

Chester Valley Trail

If you and your furry friend are looking for a hike, this is it!

One of the largest trails in the region, the Chester Valley Trail stretches across 14.7 miles and is actively working to extend the trail an additional 5 miles into Downingtown and neighboring Montgomery County, connecting to the Schuylkill River Trail.

The trail’s surface is paved with asphalt, meaning this trail is fully ADA accessible. Walkers, joggers, cyclists and inline skates are all permitted on the trail that is wider enough to keep your pup safe and happy.

Uwchlan Trail

While the Uwchlan Trail is still a work in progress, the 2.5-mile trail is still one of the best in the area because it takes pups through so many settings.

For example, Uwchlan Trail crosses over a stone bridge at Dowlin Forge Road, crosses local roads and even includes a segment, located at Dowlin Forge and Pennypacker roads, where hikers can view relics from the 18th and 19th centuries like ruins of old mills, dams and more.

Brandywine Trail

Extending 2.5 miles through Chester County, this paved trail is a feast for the eyes, taking users through beautiful natural surroundings.

The trail that follows its namesake, crossing through meadows and forests along the Brandywine Creek, will take you on a journey past the historic Gibson’s Covered Bridge, a rare wooden covered bridge built in 1872 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Pups can also spot the John Johnson Nature Center and Harmony Hill Nature Area along the way.
