Give the Gift of Time This Holiday Season

December 10, 2020

Finding the perfect gift for everyone on your list can be quite a challenge. Finding the perfect gift during a pandemic presents even more of an obstacle. This year, instead of running from shop to shop, stay safe at your Chestnut Square apartment and instead brainstorm some ways to give the gift of time to your loved ones. While many of the events gift-givers usually think of—theater, sports games, movies—aren’t an option this year, there are other, smaller-scale excursions that are still in play.

If you have a history lover on your list, or just someone who’s passionate about West Chester and the surrounding region, a trip to the Chester County Historical Society could make for a great gift. The organization documents and preserves hundreds of years of history about our area, putting it all on display for visitors. Given the pandemic, the historical society is only open by appointment—meaning you can have the run of the place on your visit!

The organization recently reopened, launching “Becoming Chester County,” which tells 300 years of stories about Chester County through artifacts including photos, newspaper articles and personal belongings of some of West Chester’s earliest residents. The museum is also home to a number of permanent exhibits, with a collection of more than 80,000 objects. Seven different galleries allow visitors to walk back in time to learn about the people and places that helped put West Chester on the map.

Getting out and about to celebrate the holidays and your loved ones will be a little harder this year, but with some creativity and by taking advantage of all that West Chester has to offer, this can still be an exciting and memorable holiday season.
