How to Celebrate the Holidays in West Chester this Year

December 17, 2020

Big family dinners, holiday festivals, beloved local holiday traditions—all of these are going to look quite different this year. But even if your focus is on safety, that doesn’t mean you can’t still find ways to enjoy the sights, sounds and spirit of the holiday season without ever leaving from your Chestnut Square apartment.

One such way to do that is at the Uptown Knauer Performing Arts Center. While the local entertainment center, three blocks from your Chestnut Square apartment, isn’t open for live performances, it is staging a virtual rendition of a beloved holiday classic: The Christmas Carol. While you may not get the full live theater experience at the Dec. 18 event, you can reap the benefits of getting to watch a performance right from the couch of your living room in your Chestnut Square apartment: No noisy audience members, easy access to your favorite snacks and drinks, and you don’t even have to change out of your comfy pants!

This version of the show is family-friendly, told from the point of view from Tiny Tim, so if you have little ones in your life, this a great opportunity for a holiday-themed night together. Before the pandemic, Uptown was known for its award-winning shows brimming with top talent and, this year, it has perfected the art of the virtual performance, bringing its diverse collection of programming right into your home.

And with this show, Uptown is going the extra mile to help get viewers into the holiday spirit, providing a number of food and drink recipes you can make ahead of time to enjoy during the show. In keeping with the theme of the show, whip up some “figgy pudding,” make some apple cider and, for the adults, try the “Bob Cratchit’s Hot Gin Punch” recipe.

So don your ugly Christmas sweater and head straight to your couch to enjoy this unique but memorable holiday season!
