Give Back by Exploring Antiques, Art

March 9, 2018

The Chester County Historical Society, located just three blocks from your Chestnut Square apartment, is a treasure trove of rare artifacts that tell the rich history of West Chester. That story is celebrated each year with a weekend-long show that raises funds for the organization’s important community work.

The 36th-annual Chester County Antiques & Art Show returns March 9-11. This year’s theme is “Past, Present & Future,” a fitting topic for an event that lets buyers unearth rare finds from the past to give them new life today.

This year’s event will include more than 40 dealers, who specialize in all types of antiques: fine artwork, rugs, tableware, furniture, ceramics, jewelry and much more. Vendors come from Chester County and all over the country, and pieces date to the 18th and 19th centuries, so you can get a good look at how trends and fashions changed locally and nationally over the years.

Even if the closest you’ve come to appreciating antiques is catching an episode or two of “Antiques Road Show,” you can still find a lot to see and do at the Chester County Antiques & Art Show. The show opens on March 9 with a preview party featuring cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a light buffet as well as exclusive looks at this year’s exhibitors. There will also be a gourmet café featuring drinks and dining options throughout the rest of the weekend.

Proceeds from the show benefit the Historical Society, which provides year-round programming highlighting how our region came to be the thriving area that it is today. The organization showcases rotating exhibits as well a permanent collections featuring newspapers, photos, artifacts and more that tell the intriguing story of Chester County over the past several centuries. With a full lineup of school and public programs, lectures and discussions, Chester County Historical Society is a vital community tool that helps bring the past into the present, and even the future.

Show your support for the group’s work at this year’s Antiques & Art Show—and get some great finds for your Chestnut Square apartment in the process!
