Get in the Summer Spirit at This Country Fair
August 1, 2021Even though your Chestnut Square apartment is right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown West Chester, it’s also close enough to the rolling hills of Chester County that you can enjoy all that country living has to offer. While wineries, produce from local farms and some of the best scenery around are just a few of the perks of the region, another is the sense of community—which will be on full display at one of the region’s biggest and best events this month.
The Goshen Country Fair returns to the grounds of the Goshen Fire Company, less than 10 minutes from your Chestnut Square apartment, Aug. 2-7. The community carnival features fun for all ages—rides, games, food and plenty of traditional “country” activities.
First—the food! Members of the Goshen Fire Company prepare all the food offerings—from cheesesteaks to hot sausages, burgers and hot dogs and corn on the cob. You can also snag some slices from a local pizza shop right on site or stop by the “Fry Booth” to see how creative you can get with your fried snack selection: from jalapeno poppers to mac and cheese bites to mushrooms. Make sure to save up your appetite for dessert, with favorites like funnel cake or a Goshen Fair Donut.
The rides and activities are just as exciting. See the whole fairgrounds from the ferris wheel or keep your feet closer to the ground on the carousel or loads of other rides of varying thrill levels. Try your hand at some traditional carnival games, and cheer on local firefighters who will compete in a tug-o-war tournament each night of the festival.
While the event is kid-friendly, it’s also pet-friendly! Bring along your four-legged friend to compete in the 13th annual Dog Show, held Aug. 2 at 8 p.m., with prizes awarded to standout pooches across eight categories. Animal lovers can also visit the livestock tent to meet and greet area cows, pigs, horses and more.
