Where to Watch the Flyers

January 27, 2020

Now that the Eagles’ season is a wrap, many locals are turning their attention to another Philly sports team: the Flyers. Whether or not you’re a big hockey fan, it’s hard to resist the excitement of the game’s quick pace and back and forth nature—and when you factor in the unpredictable Broad Street Bullies, you’re guaranteed a good time! While you can always watch the game cozied up in your Chestnut Square apartment, a high-energy matchup like hockey is the perfect excuse to get out and about to your local sports bar—and, lucky for you, there are plenty of options right near home.

One of the newest watering holes for sports fans is Appalachian Brewing Co., just one block from your Chestnut Square apartment. The micro pub is a cozy new addition to West Chester, offering up handcrafted brews and spirits, Pennsylvania-made wine and locally sourced pub grub, the perfect ingredients for watching the Flyers score a W. On the food side, you can opt for the traditional sports-watching selections—like wings, nachos and fries—or go a little exotic and try items like bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers, BBQ brussels sprouts or the cheese-stuffed pretzel, all great for sharing with your crew. ABC also offers a wide range of burgers and entrees if you bring your appetite.

The pub features nine housemade brews offered both on tap and bottled, ranging from IPAs to pilsners and everything in between. There are also a number of seasonal specials as well as a range of ABC liquors, custom crafted in small batches.

Since ABC draws a crowd of foodies and brew enthusiasts, it’s less noisy than some of the other sports bars, though there’s always a game on several of its flat-screen TVs. So you can enjoy the game as well as conversation with your fellow hockey fans (not to mention, the food and drinks!).
