How to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo from Home
May 4, 2020Cinco de Mayo is typically a time for festive fun, full of tacos and tequilas and lots of celebrating. However, the last few months have been hard on everyone, and celebrating may be the last thing on most people’s minds. But, the occasion only comes around once a year, so why not still pay tribute in a low-key way, all without leaving your Chestnut Square apartment?
Food is a staple of any Cinco de Mayo outing—and it can still be the primary focus this year, as many local Mexican eateries are offering take-out and delivery. Local fave Taco Mar is offering both—but since it’s only one block from your Chestnut Square apartment, a trip for takeout couldn’t be simpler!
Authentic Mexican is the name of the game at Taco Mar. Its owners spent years traveling Mexico and California and collected the best of the best recipes for traditional Mexican flavors, which it brought back to West Chester. The restaurant features Sonora style tortillas, salsas brimming with chilies and peppers, and all locally sourced ingredients.
The menu is divided into three sections, all of which are available for takeout. Build a burrito or salad with proteins, veggies, cheeses and handmade salsas. Or opt for the Taco Stand offerings, which include everything from chicken to beef to shrimp to octopus, smothered in your favorite toppings. You can also order from the Baja Grill menu, which includes burritos and quesadillas. Add some chips and guac and your feast is almost complete—round it off with churros and you have all the ingredients you need for a Cinco de Mayo celebration right at home.
Cinco de Mayo may feel a bit different this year, but it’s still a time to celebrate culture, family and, of course, food!
